The kitchen is finally finished and that meant it was time to have an impromptu happy hour. Of course impromptu for me means that I made hot spinach and artichoke dip, roasted garlic, had 4 cheeses, an assortment of crackers and even made a pineapple rum angel food cake. And not to be forgotten was a variety of wines, cocktails and even popcorn!
Our friends, Cindy and Mike joined us and since they had tried J. Lohr Chardonnay with us at Thanksgiving, I thought it was only fitting that we indulged in J. Lohr Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir from Monterey County. We opened this bottle and were blown away! It was fabulous!!! It was bright, fruity and had the perfect amount of tannin finish. It was simply so good. We paired it with the variety of cheeses and Mike made these amazing gourmet pizza pockets to go with it all. This wine is light enough to pair with fish or a spicy chorizo.
If the food wasn’t enough, we opened a bag of Vinpop Pinot Noir popcorn to pair with our pinot! Vinpop snacks are organic, vegan, gluten-free, nonGMO popcorns made with organic extra virgin avocado oil. Chef and wine Proprietor, R.C. Mills created this popcorn for those who enjoy wine and kettle corn. The whole grain snack is even made with real wine!!! That alone sold me! The popcorn is sweet with a light dusting of a gorgeous purple color…the wine! I love popcorn with my wine (and a good old movie!) so this is totally up my alley. Pairing this with our pinot made for some extra fun and conversation and it most definitely paired perfectly!
If you’re ready to throw a happy hour this weekend (or heck, tonight!) run out and grab these two must-haves! The J. Lohr Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir retails for $17 and the Vinpop is $4.49/bag. That’s just over $20 for a great evening (or afternoon, no judging here) of good food and wine that is sure to bring a smile to your face.
